Mission

Blackstone Bicycle Works is a youth education program of the Experimental Station. In the context of a full-service bike shop dedicated to promoting ecological practices and empowering youth, Blackstone teaches mechanical skills, job skills, and business literacy to boys and girls from the underserved Woodlawn neighborhood and Chicago's broader south side.

We are located in the Experimental Station, 6100 S Blackstone, in the Woodlawn neighborhood just south of Hyde Park, the University of Chicago, and west of South Shore, Museum of Science and Industry, and the Lakefront. Enter through the large gate on Blackstone Ave., immediately south of the building.

Youth Education

Blackstone Bicycle Works Youth Education Program is open to all youth age 9-16, and is free of charge. During the CPS School Year, the program runs Tues-Fri, 4pm-6pm and Saturday 10am-1pm. During the Summer, it runs Tues-Sat 9:30am-4pm. Youth and their guardians must complete the registration forms before participating.
