Offerings Update as of 3.11.16:

  • Fresh, locally grown greens in March! Growing Power will be bringing beet leaves, chard, collards, watercress, dandelion greens, kale, lettuces, mizuna, baby mustards (red and green), radishes, salad mix, spinach, carrots, potatoes....

  • In addition to their certified organic preserved tomato products—tomato soups, salsas, Bloody Mary mix, jam—Tomato Mountain will be selling fresh, sweet winter spinach, carrots and radishes!

  • Ellis Family Farms will be bringing frozen cherries, 7 varieties of apples, pears, fresh cranberries, apple cider, fresh-from-the-farm eggs, honey and preserves!

  • From Nichols Farm in Marengo, Illinois, The Urban Canopy will be selling beets, carrots, butterball potatoes, Japanese turnips, and sweet potatoes. They will also be selling wheatgrass and microgreens grown at their own indoor farm here in Chicago. 

  • River Valley Ranch is the place to go for mushrooms—oysters, criminis, portabellos, shiitakes! You will also find hot sauces, salsas, frozen veggie patties, frozen ravioli and frozen tamales, prepared in the River Valley Kitchens! 

  • John Bailey Honey will be selling preserved peaches, applesauce, seasonal honey, candles made from 100% beeswax and John's own, organically grown garlic!

  • Garfield Produce Co. will be at the Market, selling their delicious hydroponically grown watercress, Spicy Mustards, Radish Mix, Pea Tendrils, Greens Variety Pack, Micro Cilantro and Micro Chervil. Great for salads as well as stir fries!

  • You don't have to travel the world to get a taste of its fare! Let Pinch Spice Market blends take you to Morocco, Provence, India.... In addition, you will find over 150 different herbs and spices to enhance any dish.

  • Faith's Farm will be bringing lots of pasture-raised porkchop steaks, shoulder roasts, loin roasts and some beef, as well as eggs from a neighboring farm (organic, but not pastured). With a month until the April market, think about stocking up!

  • Mint Creek Farm will have an abundance of poultry in stock this week! Mint Creek's chickens, ducks and turkeys are all raised on the farm's 225 acres of Certified Organic, Illinois prairie pasture! Mint Creek Farm feeds their animals only 100% Certified-Organic, non-GMO, and soyfree forages/feeds. 

  • Beans and legumes are delicious and highly nutritious, and a staple in any healthy diet. If you haven't introduced them into yours yet, now is a great time to do so! Spark of the Heart makes it easy, by creating pre-spiced soups and salads made with a variety of beans and legumes—all you need to do is add water and cook!

  • SenTEAmental Moods will be selling a variety of loose leaf tea and herbal blends, ginger lemon honey and tea supplies. 

  • For gluten-free and non-gluten free eaters, The Eating Well will be regaling us with their gluten-free cheesecakes, fresh soups made with local ingredients, veggie burgers and more!

  • If you are looking for gluten-free and vegan—or not—Bot Bakery will be selling freshly made waffles, served with sweet maple syrup! You will also find a wide array of gluten-free and vegan goodies!

  • Bread of Heaven will be bringing a wide selection of freshly baked breads and sweets, including their new sourdough breads (All-Nations Whole Grain Sourdough and Rustic Sourdough). All certified organic!

  • Breakfast and lunch pies, as well as assorted pastries and breads baked in a wood-fired oven! Pleasant House Bakery's products are made with local flour, rye, spelt and other ingredients. 

  • This Saturday, Spice! will be preparing hot-on-the-spot Breakfast Tacos, made with fresh eggs and produce from the Market, Quesadillas with spinach and mushrooms, and Burritos with chorizo and potato. 

  • Yoberri Gourmet will be introducing some new flavors, to welcome the early-arriving spring and to celebrate their 8th birthday! Pistachio & Local Honey Ice Cream!!

  • Stamper Cheese, of course!

  • At 10:30am, our dear and wonderful Chef Kocoa will return to the Market to give us a taste of her healthy Beet Dip w/Sour Cream and Za'atar Spices!

  • At 11:15am, weather permitting, Mia from Core Power will be there to lead a free yoga session. Mats will be provided. As this session will take place outdoors, please dress appropriately!

  • The Market accepts LINK and will match LINK purchases up to $25 per cardholder per market day.

  • In the past couple of months, our Blackstone Bicycle Works crew has been refurbishing a broad array of used bikes, which will be on sale this Saturday in the bike shop. If you are thinking about purchasing a bike, this is the time to buy, as you will have many brands and styles to choose from! Stop in the bike shop on the first floor, between 10am-5pm.

 


The Market is located through the red door on the side of the Experimental Station on Blackstone Avenue.

The 61st Street Farmers Market accepts LINK and Senior Farmers Market Coupons. We also match LINK purchases up to $25 per cardholder, per market day, as long as funding lasts. This means that LINK cardholders can double the value of their LINK purchases each week at the Market.

Southside Diabetes will be on site to offer free market money for participants. Chef tastings with seasonal ingredients will take place between 10:30am and 11:00am (times may vary depending on availability).

Free Yoga is offered at 11:30am, some mats provided.
