61st Street Farmers Market: Opening Day!
We are counting down to the start of the 61st Street Farmers Market's 5th season! Only a few days to go before we can reconnect with our farmers, our food and our neighbors every Saturday from 9am-2pm on 61st Street between Dorchester and Blackstone Avenues! We are very excited to see what the precocious spring has readied for us to put on our plates. You will be happy to find most of the farmers and producers whose products you have come to know and love, as well as some new ones! On opening day, we will also be offering a chef demo, Market School activities, and a chance to see a solar powered car, thanks to our friends at I-Go Car Sharing! And, as always, we will continue to accept LINK and Senior Coupons and to match LINK purchases up to $25 per cardholder per market day.
As a special feature, on opening day, May 12, the Experimental Station will also be hosting Alderman Cochran's 'Going Green' community meeting from 10am-12noon (please enter on Blackstone). We invite you to join Alderman Cochran, Ilsa Flanagan (Director of Sustainability, Univ. of Chicago), I-Go Car Sharing, Bike Ambassadors, and others to learn about how you can live more sustainably and what is available in the local community to do so.
Lastly, independent markets like ours depend on donations and grants, the help of volunteers, and our devoted customers to make our Market happen week after week and year after year. Please consider making a financial donation to the 61st Street Farmers Market by dropping off a check at the Information Booth on opening day, or through PayPal.
Thank you for support of the 61st Street Farmers Market. We look forward to seeing you there!
