61st Street Farmers Market - October 22
It looks like all this wind is going to bring some beautiful weather our way for the Market on Saturday. To celebrate the return of the sun, we have a lot of exciting things in store for Market Day!
- B’Gabs Goodies will set up their own tent so they can offer more delicious Vegan Food options. This week’s specials include “Meat Loaf”, Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, Pancakes, “Bacon” and Pecan Pie!
- Subterranean Foods will have more room to spread their culinary wings with their wonderful Breakfast Tacos (spinach, mushrooms, cotija cheese, cilantro and onion) and Breakfast/Brunch Burritos (potato, beans, kale, tomato and goat cheese).
- Faith’s Farm gets us thinking of warm autumn flavors and the tempting aroma of a Roast in the oven. Kim has a fresh supply of pork loin and shoulder roasts.... Or maybe you’d like some ham hocks simmering in split pea or black bean soup! YUM!!
- Squash, Squash, Squash: Genesis Growers, Growing Power and Mike & Clare’s Farm have an incredible selection of Squash available: Acorn, Baby Hubbard, Buttercup, Butternut, Carnival, Delicata, Green Striped Cushaw, Kabocha, Long Island Cheese, Long of Naples, Marina di Chioggia, Pink Banana, Red Kuri, Spaghetti, Turk's Turban, and Pie Pumpkin.
With all that squash at the Market, we have a special Pumpkin treat for the Chef Demo…
10:30am Chef Demo: Chef/Owner John Schultz of Mr. Spanky’s Farm Fresh Artisan Foods will prepare Pumpkin Pancakes with Homemade Butter and Glazed Apples! One of Chef John’s culinary highlights was being the Executive Sous Chef for Ringling Brothers and Barnaum & Bailey Circus, cooking for 400 people 24/7 and on a train! In February, John started Mr.Spanky's Farm Fresh Artisan Foods delivering the best of old-world butchered meats, chef cured bacon and fresh foods to Illinois farmers markets.
10am to 1pm Market School: Chef Megan Munitz of Fresh Connections – Chef Megan will test our sustainable food knowledge with fun games, activities, and trivia. Fresh Connections is a non-profit organization committed to local sustainable agriculture and works to empower our community with the knowledge, enthusiasm and skills to make delicious, healthy, nutritious food choices.
61st Street Farmers Market Indoor Season begins on November 5th inside Experimental Station! Only a couple weeks to go.
See you at the Market!
