Conversation with Ralph Richard Banks, Author of "Is Marriage for White People?"
Please join The Invisible Institute at the Experimental Station this Thursday evening, October 27, at 7pm for a public conversation with Ralph Richard Banks, author of Is Marriage for White People?: How the African American Marriage Decline Affects Everyone, and Steve Edwards of Chicago Public Radio.
Banks' provocative book promises to spark a robust national conversation about race and relationships. Is Marriage for White People? explores the broad economic and cultural developments that have resulted in a society-wide decline in marriage—a decline that is most extreme among African Americans. Weaving together scholarly research with personal stories of women throughout the nation, he advances the challenging thesis that interracial marriage is the best hope for increasing marriage within the African American community. Get ready for an interesting conversation.
The Experimental Station is located at 6100 S. Blackstone Avenue and is wheelchair-accessible. (Call 773-241-6044 if you would like to request any assistance.) Street parking will be available, as well as parking in the University of Chicago lots to the north. We look forward to seeing you there!
