Blackstone Bicycle Works is no longer a drop in program.  All interested and returning students must register for a class to attend the Bike Shop and will have access to the shop only on their class day.

Blackstone Bicycle Works will host 3 after school classes from September 24-December 14, 2019 for 8-18 year olds. All programs are free. In order to participant all applicants, including returning students, need to complete an online application by September 21st.

Programs take place at Blackstone Bicycle Works 6100 S Blackstone Ave.  Space is limited, apply early.

Earn a Bike
Tuesdays
September 24—December 10

Requirements: New student, 8-12 years old

In our introductory class participants will learn bike safety, and level up on their cycling skills. All students who complete the course earn a single speed, coaster brake bike, helmet, and bike lock.

All interested Earn a Bike students who do not know how to ride a bike without training wheels must participate in a Saturday Learn to Ride Workshop on September 28th from 10a-12pm.

Gear Up 1
Wednesdays
September 25—December 11

Requirements: Must be a returning student of Blackstone, at least 10 years old, and a green apron.  

Gear Up 1 students learn to build and maintain multi-geared bikes with hand brakes, build confidence in city riding, and are introduced to basic shop operations.  Students will be learning the skills needed to attain their red aprons.  


Students may take this class multiple times.

Requirements: Must be a returning student of Blackstone, at least a red apron, or at least 13 years old with instructor recommendation.

In this class, students will work on personal bike projects, advance mechanical and cycling skills, and learn about shop operations.  Students will work toward their purple aprons. 

Students may take this class multiple times.
