Opening Reception for "Bike Shop Art Show"

Blackstone Bicycle Works and South Side In Focus present:

Bike Shop Art Show

Opening reception
May 23rd, 5PM - 8PM

All are welcome

Our second exhibition of projects made with youth from Blackstone Bicycle Works features drawings, repurposed banners, “helmets of the future,” and an exploded cardboard bike shop installation. These works were made through weekly art workshops with local, community-taught teaching artist Tita Thomas (Assata’s Daughters, For The People Artist Collective) with support from South Side In Focus volunteers.

We’re also featuring collaborative works made with guest artists including bike-printed backdrops made with Faheem Majeed, panoramic photos taken from bicycles with New York artist duo LoVid, photographs of shop life by David Johnson, collaborative drawings and sculptures made with Dorian Sylvain and her students at the Hyde Park Art Center

Live performances include a spoken word performance by Blackstone alumna Adarah and her crew, Nuff Said, and a bike-travelled electronics and conch shell act featuring BBW youth and Pastel Fractal

Food is by Exquisite Catering, owned and operated by bike shop parent, Tiffany Williams.

This event is organized by Matthew Searle. and made possible through essential support from South Side In Focus.
