“Self-Care = Resistance” Pop-up Jam (March) - Gather At The Pines
Tuesday, March 5th, 7:00-8:30PM
Doors open at 7, circle from 7:30-8:30PM
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” - Audre Lorde
“Our Healing Practice is a Performance Practice” - Julian Otis
Self-care = Resistance (Julian Otis and Angel Bat Dawid) welcomes South African percussionist Asher Gamedze to the circle to share his sounds. Rudra Xristián will install his kinetic sculptures, that guests can play or interact with, among 30 pine trees to create a “sound forest” in our event space.
Self-Care = Resistance is a community gathering for collective expression through music, dance, poetry, rap, and beyond. Bring yourself, your instrument, your pen and let's mediate. Angel Bat Dawid (composer/clarinetist/vocalist/pianist - @angeltheoracle) and Julian Terrell Otis (vocalist/theatrical improv - @badjujusings) will help lead you on this musical journey.
This space centers Black participants and their self-care. All are welcome with this in mind.
This event is free and open to the public. It is wheelchair accessible.
