A guided bicycle tour led by AIA Chicago’s EDI Committee, partnered with Experimental Station’s Blackstone Bicycle Works, and UChicago Arts + Public Life.
Over the past decade, there have been an abundance of community-led interventions in the Bronzeville, Washington Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods; interventions that have fostered a positive, often entrepreneurial spirit for many that call these areas home. From new affordable-focused housing to arts and community outreach programs, and from exciting market hubs to urban farming education spaces, the AIA Chicago and Experimental Station are proud to co-host a bike tour highlighting these efforts.
Following a 10-mile route starting at Experimental Station’s hub, we will explore the history of these sites, conversing with those involved in their creation and maintenance. We hope you join us on this tour and learn how the implementation of responsible planning, design, and collaboration can foster exciting urbanism in these trailblazing communities!
Starting Location: Experimental Station, 6100 S Blackstone Ave, Chicago, IL 60637
Participants are requested to bring their own bikes and helmets. If you do not have a bike, please be sure to note in registration and we will provide a bike.
